Shady Brook Village has been a Taos Canyon landmark for many years.  It began as a fur buying station on a spur off the Old Santa Fe trail in the 19th century, to the modern condo village that it is today.  Surrounded by Kit Carson National Forest, it is complete with its own completely remodeled café-restaurant reopening in Spring 2012.  Shady Brook Village is centrally located for all of northern New Mexico's year-round, endless adventures. Our modern condos are furnished and unfurnished, for your short or long term stay.

The Shady Brook Village Indian
A very unique feature of Shady Brook Village deals with the mysterious "Shady Brook Indian." His full story isn't completely known but the staff at Shady Brook continues to find clues as to his existence. Back in the 1950's/1960's Shady Brook Village was called "The Golden Indian." It was later purchased and fully remodeled with modern furnishings but still in the South-western Pueblo style. The Indian statue somehow remained and his pleasant demeanor and welcoming wave became a landmark of Shady Brook Village. It was relocated further into the Shady Brook Village property in that some individuals decided to shoot at the unique Indian statue as it was right next to the highway. Additionally the statue was stolen but somehow returned five times, so we brought it closer in for security reasons.
The owners of Shady Brook Village wish to honor the past and have taken great measures to restore the American Indian statue to its full glory. The golden Indian statue is a survivor and has continually served as a historic landmark to all travelers. The statue has remained part of the unique charm of Shady Brook Village and continues to greet guest today.
